Privacy Policy — Household AI

Last updated: September 13, 2026

Household AI is a private, family-focused AI assistant. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and what it does not do.

Who this app is for

Household AI is designed for use within a single family or household, with age-appropriate profiles for children, teens, and parents. Access to the app is currently invite-only — a parent or account holder approves each person who requests access before they can sign in.

What information we collect

Account access requests. If you request access to Household AI (for example, via our website), we collect the name and email address you submit, along with general location information (city/region/country, derived automatically from your network connection — we do not use GPS or ask for precise location). This is used solely to review and approve access requests and is not shared with third parties.

Chat messages and content you provide. Messages you send to the assistant, and any documents you attach, are processed in order to generate a response and, where you request it, an audio narration.

Age-tier profile. Each device selects an age profile (Kid, Tween, Teenager, or Parent) during setup. This determines the assistant's behavior and safety guidelines for that device but is not tied to any real-world identity verification.

Parental consent record. When a parent or guardian sets up parent access on a device, we record a timestamp confirming that they attested to being a parent or legal guardian at least 18 years old. This record is stored locally on the device.

Where your data goes — and where it doesn't

Local-first storage. Chat history is stored locally on your device, per profile, so that each family member's conversations stay separate and private on that device.

Our own private server. To generate responses, your messages are sent to a private server that we operate and control (not a third-party AI company's servers). This server runs open-source AI models entirely under our management.

No data goes to third-party AI companies. We do not send your messages, documents, or any content to OpenAI, Google, or any other third-party AI provider. The AI models Household AI uses run entirely on infrastructure we operate.

No advertising, no data sales. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers, and the app contains no ads or ad tracking.

Retention. Your message content itself is not written to any log or file on our server — it exists only in memory long enough to generate a response, then it's gone. Our server does keep limited operational logs (such as response timing and processing statistics) to help us monitor performance and troubleshoot issues; these logs never contain the text of your messages or the assistant's responses, and are automatically deleted after 14 days. Your chat history itself lives locally on your device, under your control.

About the AI models we use, and their limitations

Household AI runs on open-source AI models (including Microsoft's Phi and Meta's Llama). Like all AI language models, these models are not perfect — their own publishers are direct about this. Microsoft's documentation for the Phi models states that they "may produce other types of inappropriate or offensive content" and should be evaluated and mitigated for accuracy, safety, and fairness before use in high-risk scenarios. Meta's usage terms for Llama similarly require that any use involving minors employ appropriate age-gating.

Because no AI model's built-in behavior can be guaranteed 100% reliable, we do not rely on the model alone to keep content appropriate for children and teens. In addition to age-appropriate instructions given to the model, Household AI runs an automated safety check on both what a child or teen sends and what the assistant responds with, before it's shown, for every non-parent profile. If a message or response doesn't pass this check, it is blocked and replaced with a safe message suggesting the user try again or ask a parent.

This system is a meaningful safeguard, but — consistent with what Microsoft and Meta say about their own models — no automated system is perfect. Parents and guardians should still use their judgment in supervising a child's use of the app, the same as with any AI product.

Children's privacy

Household AI includes age-appropriate profiles intended for use by children under the supervision and setup of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must set up parent access — including an explicit attestation of their status as a parent/guardian and being at least 18 years old — before any child profile on a device can be used. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children beyond what is necessary for the app's core functionality (chat messages needed to generate a response), and we do not use children's information for advertising or any purpose beyond providing the assistant's functionality.

If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns about your child's use of Household AI, or wish to request that information be deleted, contact us using the information below.
